Everything You Need To know About Parking in Savannah

Parking in any city can be overwhelming and stressful at times. Especially, when you’re in an unfamiliar place - but have no fear!

We’ve put together some tips to help you navigate parking in Savannah

Here in Savannah, we have five city-owned parking garages (the Bryan Street Parking Garage, Liberty Street Parking Garage, Robinson Parking Garage, State Street Parking Garage, and Whitaker Street Parking Garage) and six city-owned parking lots (three along River Street, one at the Savannah Visitor’s Center, and one at the Savannah Civic Center), all of these are accessible to Savannah’s visitors.

In addition, Savannah offers several thousand metered parking spaces. Sounds like a lot, but on weekends and holidays parking can get a little chaotic.

You must always pay for parking Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in street parking spots North of Liberty Street.

For spots South of Liberty street, payment is only required Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Yes! Sunday is free!

In addition to Sundays, payment is not required on Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and government holidays.

So how do you go about paying for parking?

Here in Savannah, we can be a little tech-savy, but a little old fashioned too. Some metered parking spaces still have the “old-fashioned” meters operated by coins. But If you happen to find a spot without a meter, the parking space will have a number on the corner of your spot. This number can be entered in at a nearby Pay Station.

We also have a parking app!

It’s available for iPhones and Androids. It’s free to download, just search “ParkSavannah” in your app store. Once downloaded, you enter your parking spot number and payment method. You can also extend your parking time throughout the day via the app without having to physically return to your car.

Factor in extra time to find a parking spot.

A good rule of thumb is to give yourself an extra fifteen minutes to find a parking spot if you’re driving to scheduled plans. There’s nothing worse than rushing to a dinner reservation or a ghost tour, and then not being able to find a parking spot. Depending on the time of year you happen to be visiting, finding a space could be relatively easy, or more of a time investment. Better safe than sorry!

Don’t Stress! Just Ask a Local.

Parking in any unfamiliar city can be daunting, and depending on your experience with parallel parking - well, it can feel a little extra tricky. But no worries - if you find yourself in a pinch, Savannah is full of locals who are more than happy to stop and give you some pointers. Don’t be afraid to ask. Have fun - and happy parking!
