Indulge Your Sweet Tooth in Savannah

If you’re anything like us, you like to indulge your sweet tooth from time to time. When traveling, it’s important to sample the sweetness your vacation destination has to offer. When your destination is Savannah, however, it’s imperative. We’ve compiled a list of all the best places to experience our sweet city- you can’t miss these must-try Savannah desserts . . .

Leopold’s Ice Cream on Broughton Street

Leopold’s Ice Cream is arguably the most famous ice cream brand in America. Established in 1919, this shop has been entrancing the country in its thick, sweet ice cream for over a century. This ice cream is so famous that President Jimmy Carter himself personally ordered cases of their Savannah Butter Pecan ice cream to the White House! Let the record show that this writer is in accordance with Jimmy on this one- their butter pecan is to die for. Soft, decadent southern pecans decorate a thick and buttery caramel ice cream- try it neat or in a root beer float; you seriously can’t go wrong!

Savannah Candy Kitchen in City Market

The Savannah Candy Kitchen holds a special place in my heart- it’s where my soon-to-be-husband took me on our first date (smart man, candy is the way to my heart)! The Savannah Candy Kitchen makes almost all of their candy by hand on the premises, using hand-powered cranks to stretch cozy peanut brittle and saltwater taffy in a hypnotizing dance that will have your mouth absolutely watering! If you’re planning your trip to Savannah, I’m sure you’ve heard aunts, uncles, and parents begging you to bring back Savannah pralines or saltwater taffy. There’s no excuse to go back home empty handed when the best place to get those sought-after delicacies is right in the heart of downtown!

Better Than Sex on Broughton Street

Find your pearls, you may need to clutch them! This sultry, romantic restaurant is the most popular date spot among locals and visitors. With a menu full of suggestively named desserts and chocolate-covered cocktails, this restaurant is the perfect place for a romantic date night. Just make sure you leave the kids at home, as the name suggests- these treats are NSFW! (Hint- Try the Man Flowers, this chocolate cake is, well, better than sex!)

Lulu’s Chocolate Bar

Lulu’s Chocolate Bar is one of the most accomplished bars in the whole city! A trendy, speak-easy atmosphere compliments delectable cheesecakes, tarts, and pies. They hold quite the record in our city- they’ve been voted “Best Desserts in Savannah” for almost 20 years in a row! They handcraft sweet cocktails to compliment each dessert on the menu. Your artisan cheesecake and cocktail can be enjoyed within the brick walls of this historic bar, or at the outdoor seating arrangements overlooking our beautiful city!

Chocolate by Adam Turoni

Both Savannah locations of Chocolat by Adam Turoni are truly delectable gems. We’ve yet to find a chocolate shop anywhere that lives up to these quaint and cozy truffle libraries. Antique books line the walls, enclosing avid readers and chocolate-eaters in warm, historic atmospheres. Artisan chocolates sit delicately in glass cases, just waiting to melt in your mouth. You can even enjoy a taste of Savannah in their Savannah Honey Chocolate Bar- masterfully crafted with honey from Savannah’s local apiaries!

You truly cannot go wrong with any dessert you choose in our sweet city, but hopefully this list helps you narrow your choices down! As mama always says - life is like a box of chocolates. Eat, drink, and be merry!
