Tutti Frutti, Oh Savannah

"Places like Leopold's Ice Cream remind us of the simple joys that bless our hearts - even if just through a bowl of Rose-flavored ice cream." T.C. Michaels | Genteel & Bard Fine Savannah History Walking Tours | genteelandbard.com

What do you consider a special occasion? It could be the greatest of events like a wedding, anniversary, or birthday - Could also be a chance to share a smile with a friend or loved one.

Could be anything you wish. For my family and I, it's any fun excuse to share another memory at Leopold's Ice Cream on Broughton Street in downtown Savannah.

My son's one-of-a-kind paper diner hat is always on display in his playroom, his name beautifully written in crayon by an always-smiling-Leopold's employee. A fun day with a cherry on top. A special occasion.

Oh, my wife lives for the Rose flavored ice cream that comes around every Spring. Yes, it tastes like a rose smells, and my wife LOVES it.

For me, it's always the classic Banana Split.

Leopold's celebrated 97 years of business this past weekend - and they offer so much more than just the best ice cream you'll ever taste.

Leopold's is a portrait of family and small town vibes. Simplicity. Happiness.

Going to Leopold's is waiting in a picturesque line that weaves down the block, holding a complimentary cup of water in the happy Savannah sun, surrounded by smiling strangers with a common love for sweet treats.

It's the greeting you receive at the vintage ice cream counter, with an invitation to try any flavor you like - from Lemon Custard (My Favorite) to their signature invention, Tutti Frutti. Enjoy a table in the dining area surrounded by movie memorabilia, and savor the flavor.

Amid the hustle of today's social-media-frenzied-one-touch-smartphone-lifestyle, Leopold's offers up a place to slow down and reconnect with that kid in your heart. Places like Leopold's Ice Cream remind us of the simple joys that bless our hearts - even if just through a bowl of Rose-flavored ice cream.
